It is not about door that can open themselves while driving, this item is a security for children playing with the locks. The doors on a modern car will still open while driving if the security isn’t activated.

Don’t worry, the suicide door will catch her.

More like, whap her in the back of the head on the way under it.
Unless she manages to tear it off and surf it down the road to safety of course.

Yeah thats what the ad states but on every car I’ve owned built before 1978 the doors or trunk were always a problem. New bushings hinges or whatnot didn’t seem to help.

I had the door on a Cessna 152 pop open while flying. The latch mechanism was horrible, and the door handle was some cheap plastic strap that felt like it would fall apart if pulled too hard. Luckily, air resistance at flight speed means that it was plenty hard just to push the door further open so I could slam it.

The ad is 1963 I think. So you are correct.

It has to be pre 1963. The car is a dead give away and the style and layout of the ad makes me think pre 1950s.

Me too but thats the best reference I got.

It’s not entirely impossible. I’ve seen ads like that in the back of magazines up until the 70s.

Looks pre-war really. Very 1940-41 style, Nash and Ford both had that sort of weird door semi-covering the running board thing going on in ‘41, though the window shapes look more Chevy.

I think you’received right. I said pre 1950 to play it safe.

These ads don’t always use new cars though. And they ran them forever. Quite a few prewar cars were around in the late 40s.

OK, I haven’t had an issue with opening doors yet, haven’t had a car built before 1987 yet though.
But I can see the safety issue there.
Also: no doors no problem!

on a lot of pre war cars the problem wasn’t the locks, if you remembered to use them, was that on a lot of the cars door handles you simply had to push the handle down to open the door so really east to open. Simply flipping the handle to where you have to pull up helped. Also on suicide door cars of the 30's it was common for the doors to just open from the air pushing it open.

Really? I’ve got a 73, and that door’s not opening unless you pull the handle. It’s pretty solidly closed. Granted I don’t have much experience outside of a handfull of cars that old, but I didn’t think doors just popping open was a problem.

76 and 77 cutlass were horrible and I swear that door weighed a 100 pounds plus. I personally fell out of my brothers 65 chevy pick up. Hell even my 89 fox body had bad bushings but that’s a known problem for them. Maybe it just me.
